Wow, it's November! Grade one students have been busy. We went to the Epcor Centre for the Preforming Arts last Monday and saw the National Geographic LIVE presentation of On the Trail of Big Cats with Steve Winter. It was amazing to learn about cougars, tigers and snow leopards!
We are continuing to build our sight word vocabulary and encourage students to practice the weekly words that are written in their agendas. Also, please don't forget to spend some time reading the weekly poems.
Students are learning about our community- any opportunity that they have to discover the community where they live will help to build there understanding.
Here's some great ideas that you can do together:
-go for a walk together: talk about what is in your community
-ask your child about their favorite places in your community (parks, stores, restaurants...)
-plan a family trip to a local park that you can walk or drive to
-make a picture of your street: label your home and neighbors that your child knows
-visit the local library, bank, fire station, gas station...talk about why these are important places in your community.
Too bad I just saw this now....thanks for the ideas!!
